Hollywood Marketing Notes

Blockbuster - A massive hit, the ones that make studios all the money. The word started to come up in the 1940s, metaphorically it means blowing up a building.

Big Films, Big Stars, Big Directors, Big Budgets.
Usually Action Films.

Brand Partnerships are established to help with promotion.

Jaws (1975) was the first Blockbuster. This film provided a prototype for the modern blockbuster,

Star Wars then became a second Blockbuster.

They both become blockbusters due to marketing.
Synergy comes into help.

Franchise: a film or series made that is in succession to the previous.

Licensed Products: These are like synergy basically where they release products

Brand Partnerships: where different brands partner together e.g. Mcdonalds sometimes partners with an upcoming film like Star Wars.

Co-branding Adverts: Marketing the Synergy.

Sequels make a lot of money. This could be if the first one made a lot of money then they would create a sequel. Hard to make a good ending.
