MINECRAFT AND CROSS-PLATFORM GAMING
SHORT MINECRAFT RECAP
- Markus Persson aka Notch made Minecraft,
- Based it off Legos
- Mojang was the company that started it.
- Microsoft bought Mojang in 2014. Which now exists as a subsidiary of a global conglomerate.
CROSS PLATFORM GAMING
- Was introduced in late 2017.
- You can play the same game against other different players on different platforms. For example someone can play minecraft on their xbox whilst playing another player on their phone.
- Microsoft were the first media company to launch cross platform gaming, the update was called the ''better together'' update.
- There was one console that was not included which was the PS4.
HOW DOES THIS OFFER A NEW WORLD TO PLAYERS?
- Attracts many more players overtime, definitely has benefits for the audience.
- Offers a solid consistent experience.
- Also gives microsoft a bit of kudos.
- Disadvantage, bullying could still happen this is why PS4 didn't want to get involved.
- Child Protection, key areas of concern.
- Once games operate across different platforms there are fewer checks and procedures for reporting..
GAMING AND SYNERGY
SYNERGY = Refers to the simultaneous selling a two or more linked products. For example with films, just not about selling the film but a soundtrack too.
CONVERGENCE = Refers to the crossing over of two or more technologies or platforms.
There's a difference, synergy is about selling convergence is about anything coming into the media.
Synergy is relevant in media because different conglomerate or different companies work together to promote a linked product.
Cross-media content helps maximize profits and reach new audiences.
