- Magazine = Leaflet with loads of pages.
- Leaflets, posters and flyers have been around for many years
- Magazines appeared in the UK in the late 1700s
- Early magazines would be The Gentleman's Magazine from 1750s.
- Wasn't until the late 19th century / early 20th century when magazines started to take off.
- Without magazines or newspapers there wasn't any other way of speaking to other people.
- Early magazines also include Vanity Fair.
- Fake news even existed back then.
- Magazine circulation is declining.

KEY TERMS:
CIRCULATION = Number of copies a magazine sells.
MASS AUDIENCE = Magazines that appear to lots of people.
NICHE AUDIENCE = Narrow group of readers with particular interest
READERSHIP = Not someone who buys the magazine but someone who reads it.
SUBSCRIPTION = Where a reader pays for a set amount of magazines in advance at lower prices and receives them in the post.
MASTHEAD = The title of the magazine
PLUG = Text that sells the feature. Will appear inside the magazine
PUFF = Similar to PLUG, a story that is given on the cover
COVER STAR = Main star on the cover.
MAIN COVER LINE = Text that anchors the main image and gives it meaning
BANNER = Text that runs across the lower section of the cover
SKYLINE = Text that runs across the top of the cover
